3Stars Rehabilitation Network is a non-profit non-government organisation that was founded in 2022 which thrives to improve lives of children with disabilities through using the Community Based Rehabilitation Approach (CBR). We are located in Bombay village, Bweyogerere division, Kira municipality, Wakiso District, legally registered to operate in Uganda.
Current projects
Training of Champion Caregivers
We trained champion caregivers in trainer of trainers in the areas of disability management in Bidibidi Imvepi, Rwamwanja refugee settlements and Kampala. A total of 39 caregivers were trained (29 F, 10M) It was seen as a strategy for continuous capacity building in disability management for care givers led by care givers.
The training focused on:
- Basic disability identification and early intervention,
- Home-based rehabilitation techniques,
- Psychosocial support for children and families, and
- How to plan and conduct trainings.
Champion caregivers were empowered in running basic trainings for other
caregivers with their in their communities committee are now acting as community resource persons, supporting other caregivers and linking families to rehabilitation services. This was seen as sustainable way to promote learning amongst caregivers in disability and rehabilitation.
Follow-up of Children with Disabilities in Refugee Settlement
Follow-up visits were conducted for 60 children with disabilities (45 Girls, 15 Boys) living in
refugee settlements. Activities caried out included:
- Functional assessments,
- Monitoring progress of rehabilitation interventions, and
- caregiver coaching on home-based therapy to improve function of children with disabilities
Livelihood Training for caregivers in Kirinya and Bukasa wards, Wakiso District
A total of 19 caregivers were trained in livelihood skills, the aim was to ensure that the small
income activities they initiated are improved to grow more income that will support their
children with disabilities. The training covered areas namely small business management,
financial literacy and savings, Market analysis, Record keeping and value addition.
In summary, caregivers gained practical skills to start and manage income generating activities and reducing economic vulnerability. At the end of the training each caregiver was provided with a small seed fund of 100,000 UGX to boast their income ventures.
Training of caregivers in making Low-cost Learning materials
Training was conducted for 45 caregivers (29 F, 16 M) in making low-cost learning materials
using locally available resources. This was found a solution observing that caregivers can not afford to buy modern materials due to lack of funds. It is hooped that caregivers will now be in position to support their children to learn at house hold level with these materials. These trainings were conducted in Bidibidi Imvepi and Rwamwanja refugee settlements.
Training of 12 Teachers in Motor Development (Palabek Refugee Settlement)
In collaboration with Bon Bosco Palabek, an organization that operates in Palabek, refugee settlement, we were able to run a motor development for 12 teachers (6 m, 6 f). The training aimed that showing teachers how to promote mental and physical development of leaners in schools so that during physical education in schools, they incorporate these skills. The training covered Motor development milestones, Classroom-based motor stimulation activities, Identification of developmental delays and Inclusive classroom strategies.
Teachers are now better equipped to support children with developmental challenges in school settings.
