Current projects
WISIMODO poultry and piggery projects
WISIMODO established a Poultry Feed Mill as a means of increasing the income of our
members. Smallholders (widows and single mothers) grow maize, though on a small scale due to lack of enough land and they bring it to the Poultry Feed Mill. The maize is measured and turned into broken maize and sold to the public. The farmer as well as our member is given her money depending on the current price of maize and the profit generated after selling the broken maize goes into our savings box. To this end by establishing the Mill, WISIMODO created a ready market for the members to sell their maize. Besides, the savings are used to establish the poultry and piggery projects. We use the small savings generated from Mill to buy chicks, piglets and maize and other concentrates to feed them. Upon maturity, the chicken and the piglets produced by adult pigs are sold and the profits are also recycled back to the Savings box.
Village, Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs)
WISIMODO employs a Village, Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) mode of saving
where members agree upon a given amount of money to be saved after an agreed period of time.
WISIMODOs in Ttamu Division Mityana district have so far formed 2 self-help
Village, Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), which have provided immediate
community banking solutions to rural communities –enabling members to develop a
saving culture and access to revolving microcredits (given from the savings) in order
to meet quick domestic needs and investments.
Enhancing farmers' support
WISIMODO has enhanced farmers’ capacity for increased agricultural productivity, strengthened farmers’ institutions, and increased farmers’ access to financial
services, promoting utilization of land rights, income generation and women in leadership.
